PLANS FOR THE FUTURE

All the computer systems in Pr. Accounts Office at New Delhi have already been upgraded to Pentium systems and all the 386 computer systems of out-station PAOs are replaced with latest P-II systems. The tremendous response to accept and adopt latest Information Technology and Office Modernisation plans of the organisation by even remotely situated field offices, has encouraged the institution of a study group to assess and implement optimum state of art Office systems and upgradation possibilities at all the levels of the organisation. Few of the Field Pay and Accounts offices have started using their computer systems for preparation of salary bills and other routine works. The newly developed REVACT is a Windows based application and needs windows Operating System. The existing 486 computer systems at field PAOs may have to be replaced by Pentium systems once the Windows based REVACT software is finally ready for implementation.

The feasibility of obtaining the Challan details in electronic media from the Focal Point Banks for incorporation in the REVACT software is also under study and being given active consideration. For this, NIC officials and Bank authorities are being co-ordinated with to finalise the following points initially :

(a) The format and details of information required to be obtained from banks.

(b) The procedure to be adopted for revalidating the data obtained from banks (i.e. identifying the key fields to be entered in PAO office for ascertaining the correctness of the data).

(c) The procedure to be adopted in PAO offices in cases where banks are not computerised yet.
